Under-Slab insulation
Why it is important to insulate foundation under-slab?
Up to 40%of heat would radiate through the concrete floor slab as such, if the goal is to promote energy efficiency and to lessen the cooling load in a structure, it is vital then to have the right type of slab on grade foundation insulation installed prior to the construction of the facility. Solar radiation would heat up the concrete flooring and through the process of convection where warm air moves upwards, as it is lighter compared to cold air, warmness would then penetrate the building or home from underneath negating any insulation placed in the roofing, ceilings, windows and walls rendering them ineffective, increasing indoor discomfort and decreasing thermal efficiency. Factors to consider in choosing the right insulation material for underslabs are superb compression strength, low vapour permeability and high R-Value.
