Climate Change, Heatwaves and Insulation

Solar roofs. Thoughtful window placement. Energy-efficient appliances. These are all proven methods to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption thus combat the climate change crisis impacting communities worldwide.

However, don’t forget one easy solution – Insulation.

Quality insulation shall we say play a vital part in the fight against heat waves that are enveloping around the world from the United States to Europe; India to China and the persisting climate change would result in stronger and deadlier heatwaves in the future.

Heatwaves are defined as periods of extremely hot weather that goes beyond the historical temperature averages in a given area. They can be quite dangerous to people and properties. Heatwaves are not just unpleasant and uncomfortable but can start fires, cause water shortages, drying-out the landscape, impacting the food chain which results in food inadequacy. Heatwaves can kill as extreme heat is damaging to the vital organs of the body.

Action must be taken now as deadly heatwaves directly resulting from massive shifts in climate change are not going to come to an end on their own. It is apparent that insulation is one of the best defenses against the threat of global warming, henceforth building professionals, architects and those in the construction industry should prioritize the use of insulation materials in all their projects in order to future-proof the infrastructures and guard against this deadly phenomenon that is just starting and bound to get worse over time. Temperatures are going to rise even higher in the next few years.

Care should be taken in choosing the right insulation materials. Right insulation means choosing higher and better-quality materials over low price, it also means having specifications and allowances in the technical computations that encompass using stronger, thicker and more advanced materials that can insulate better. It is imperative nowadays to go above and beyond the minimum; allocate bigger budgets for the use of higher-grade insulation materials in all residential, commercial and industrial projects.

Many people understand that their actions directly impact the environment, so they are making changes in their homes and lifestyles. Insulation is an easy way to help mitigate climate change, stay comfortable and better address dangerous heatwaves.

Whether constructing new buildings that incorporates several green-friendly strategies from the ground up, designing remodel projects or retrofitting existing homes, don’t overlook the benefits of quality insulation. This simple mitigation strategy can be a solid solution to a long-term challenge, helping both your clients and the world around us.
